Steelers President Art Rooney II said yesterday that Don Shula’s recommendation to his grandfather and father was a key to their hiring of Chuck Noll in 1969. Rooney spoke in tribute to Shula, who passed away yesterday at the age of 90. He was the winningest coach in NFL history, with 347 victories, two Super Bowl wins, and the only perfect season, the 17-0 campaign in 1972, when Shula’s Miami Dolphins beat the Steelers in the AFC Championship Game.
The 2020 NFL schedule will be released Thursday on NFL Network. It will not include any international games. The league is canceling its game in Mexico City and the four games it had scheduled in London.
The NFL Network show will air at 8 PM and feature a breakdown by division, interviews with head coaches and general managers, and discussion of the top primetime TV games. As of now, the NFL season starts on September 10th.
