Pennsylvania American Water Company has filed a rate increase request with the Public Utility Commission, asking for a hike of almost 24 percent over two years system-wide. The water company serves more than 2.4 million people in 400 communities across the state, including about 19,000 customers in Indiana Borough and White Township served by the Two Lick treatment plant.

Pennsylvania American says the increases would generate $138.6 million in 2021 and 2022. The average residential water customer using 3,458 gallons per month would see a 13.9 percent increase in their bill in ’21 and 5.8 percent more in ’22. That would boost the monthly bill from $57.85 to $65.91 next year, and to $69.73 the next year.
The increases would also apply to sanitary sewer systems operated by Pennsylvania American.
The rate increases would fund system improvements as the company continues to replace aging water plants, tanks, and lines across its system.
Pennsylvania American recently completed $3.2 million in upgrades to the Two Lick plant, including two new intake structures. Since 2012, the company has invested $10 million in improvements to its Indiana County facilities and infrastructure.
