The Board of Governors of the State System of Higher Education met virtually yesterday and, using the new model which sets tuition for the coming academic year by April 30th, approved a two-year tentative tuition and technology fee rate with no increase in 2020-21, and a one percent increase for 2021-22. It’s the first time in the 38-year history of the State System that tuition has been frozen for two consecutive years. The second-year increase is based on a three-year average of tuition changes.
The new tuition and fee schedule is for schools that do not use approved Alternative Tuition Pricing plans, such as IUP. Those per-credit pricing plans are determined by each university’s Council of Trustees.
The governors also ratified the new four-year contract for State System coaches, who are represented by the faculty union APSCUF. The coaches have already ratified the agreement. Its terms include no salary increase for this year, a 2.5 percent increase in the coming academic year, and two percent increases plus 2.5 percent merit pool increases in the final two years.
The board also approved side letters affirming enhanced sick leave retirement payouts for non-faculty State System union members.
Outgoing APSCUF President Dr. Kenneth Mash offered brief final remarks as he prepares to hand over the reins to IUP professor Dr. Jamie Martin.
