Denied a motion for post conviction collateral relief in October, Arthur Whitfield has appealed to the state Superior Court, asking the court to release him from prison.
Whitfield, who is now 55 years old and last lived in Josephine, pleaded guilty in June of last year to second degree murder in the December 2013 shooting death of his former girlfriend, Holly Slone George, at her home in Derry. He broke into the home and shot George multiple times as she watched TV with her 15-year-old daughter in an upstairs bedroom.
The new appeal to Superior Court won’t be easy for Whitfield. In rejecting his petition for relief on October 25th, Westmoreland County Judge Christopher Feliciani also granted a motion for Whitfield’s attorney to withdraw as counsel, and denied a motion for the appointment of a new attorney. He is serving life in prison without parole at SCI Albion in Erie County.
