The Heritage Conference dominated the District 6 playoffs last night, and the semifinals will feature unlikely home games for both Homer-Center and United in Double-A, plus a home game for River Valley in Triple-A.
Fifth seeded Homer-Center made the long trip to number four Southern Huntingdon and the Wildcats turned up the defensive pressure to come away with an impressive win. Mark Bertig has the story.
Wildcats coach Nick Moore says his girls shut down the Rockets’ offense.
Moore knows Bishop McCort is going to be a handful, especially with the memory of last year’s District 6 title loss to Homer-Center in their minds. And he pays no mind to the number nine seed the Crushers carry this year.
At Penns Manor, the United Lions overcame a sluggish first half to surge past the Comets and earn their way into the semis. Todd Marino has the recap.
United coach Paul Hall called it “a tale of two halves”.
Comets coach Jason Miloser says his girls had difficulty handling the physicality of the game.
United will host Marion Center on Monday night after the tenth seeded Stingers dispatched number two Portage, 53-45, breaking a 45-45 tie and scoring the final eight points of the ball game from the free throw line after the 3:04 mark of the fourth quarter. Lydia Miller was terrific again last night for Marion Center, pouring in 26 points, including four three-pointers and a 12-for-14 performance from the free throw line. Kaelee Elkin added 12 points and 10 rebounds and Mya Lipsie pulled down 14 boards. Ari Wozniak led Portage with 17 points.
In Triple-A, River Valley blasted Tyrone. Jake Slebodnick was there.
Coach Ricc Brown says 21-3 Forest Hills, a 64-45 winner over Richland, will be a difficult matchup, with Rangers coach Carol Cecere setting the tone.
Panthers guard Ava Persichetti knew Tyrone would play hard.
The other Triple-A semifinal will feature top seed Westmont Hilltop against number four Huntingdon.
Tonight, seventh seeded River Valley visits number two Penn Cambria in Triple-A boys play, airing at 6:45 on Cat Country 106.3 FM and audio streaming at CatCountry1063fm.com.
