Slogging through a three-game losing streak, the Penguins have their hands full tonight with the high-scoring Edmonton Oilers visiting PPG Paints Arena.
The NHL’s top two scorers bring their act to Pittsburgh. The Oilers’ Connor McDavid leads the league in goals with 44 and in assists with 61. His 105 points on the season so far tops teammate Leon Draisaitl, who is second in scoring with 34 goals and 51 assists. Pens coach Mike Sullivan says there will be a lot of pressure on his defensemen tonight.
Sullivan says the Penguins need to do a better job of recovering when they give away the puck, which they’ve done a lot lately.
The coach says the Pens’ mistakes have been extra costly in their losing streak.
Defenseman Jeff Petry missed yesterday’s practice due to illness and Marcus Pettersson had an excused absence. Forward Ryan Poehling was also out with his continued struggle to return from an undisclosed injury originally suffered in December.
