Governor Josh Shapiro and his office are taking a stance against a popular rail company after a recent train derailment affected portions of Pennsylvania.
Reports say Shapiro’s office made a criminal referral against Norfolk Southern, the rail company involved in the derailment on February 3rd near the Pennsylvania/Ohio border. In a news conference, Shapiro said Norfolk Southern’s combined corporate greed, incompetence and lack of care for state residents is “absolutely unacceptable,” and that he’s been outspoken about the company’s “failed management of this crisis.”
EPA Administrator Michael Regan looks to hold Norfolk Southern accountable by conducting and paying for cleanup methods associated with the derailment. Norfolk Southern also faces multiple class-action lawsuits related to the derailment.
