APSCUF, the faculty union at IUP and the 13other state-owned universities has announced that their membership has ratified a one-year contract agreement.
Union members voted Monday through Wednesday of this week, this coming a month after the union’s leadership team and the State System of Higher Education announced that they reached a tentative agreement for the contract that would run through June 30th of 2019. The negotiations ran smoother than they have in recent times. Last year, negotiations broke down and it resulted in the first-ever APSCUF teachers strike at the state owned universities, a strike that lasted three days and disrupted classes on the IUP campus.
In this last voting session, 98.2% of the union membership voted in favor of the one-year agreement. It will now head to the PASSHE board of governors for their approval. With this being just a one-year agreement, both sides are planning to negotiate once again next summer.
