State House Majority Leader Dave Reed and State Senator Don White have announced that four Indiana County Schools have recived Safe Schools Grant funding.
Almost $91,000 in Safe Schools Grants will head to Indiana County Schools from the state’s Department of Education. Reed said in a media release that the funding will help ensure that schools are providing a safe and secure learning environment for all those who go to the schools. White added that the money will give the schools the freedom to choose what that money will be used for and choose the safety programs they need.
The Marion Center School District received the most money from the program, as they received a Safe Schools School Police/Resource Officer grant of $40,000. A grant of $26,841 went to United School District for the same program. Penns Manor received a Safe Schools Equipment Grant of $18,926, while the Indiana School District received a $5000 equipment grant.
The school police/resource officer grant will allow for the training and compensation of school resource and police officers, and lasts for a two-year term. The equipment grants will allow the schools to procure resources and training, as well as assist in reducing unnecessary student disciplinary actions and promote a climate of greater productivity.
