The Steelers added 10 free agents to their six draft choices over the weekend.
Pittsburgh took 6-foot-4, 238-pound Notre Dame wide receiver Chase Claypool with their first pick, in the second round on Friday. They added Charlotte edge rusher Alex Highsmith as a compensatory pick in the third round, then on Saturday they drafted Maryland running back Anthony McFarland, Louisiana-Lafayette guard Kevin Dotson, Maryland safety Antoine Brooks Junior, and defensive tackle Carlos Davis from Nebraska.
Yesterday they loaded up on free agent defenders, adding linebackers Leo Lewis of Mississippi State, James Lockhart of Baylor, and John Houston of USC; cornerbacks James Pierre of Florida Atlantic and Trajan Bandy of Miami; and defensive ends Josiah Coatney of Ole Miss and Calvin Taylor of Kentucky. The team also signed Auburn fullback Spencer Nigh, Tulane center Christian Montano, and Mississippi punter Corliss Waitman.
To make space on the 90-man roster for the undrafted signees, the Steelers released former Pitt running back Darrin Hall, Jamal Custis and safety Tray Matthews.
Former James Madison tight end and Indiana High grad Dylan Stapleton signed with Houston. Former Pitt wide receiver Maurice Ffrench was not drafted but signed as a free agent with Kansas City. Pitt’s Kylan Johnson signed with the Dolphins and Nakia Griffin-Stewart signed with the Vikings.
