The 2020 Pennsylvania Sports Writers All-State Girls Class A and AA Teams were announced yesterday, and no Heritage Conference players made either team.
Bellwood Antis star Alli Campbell was named AA Player of the Year and Bishop Guilfoyle coach Kristi Kaack was selected as AA Coach of the Year.
Campbell averaged 28.6 points per game in earning her third straight Player of the Year honor. She confirmed to the Altoona Mirror that she will still play her college basketball at Notre Dame despite the retirement announcement yesterday by Notre Dame Coach Muffett McGraw. McGraw steps down after 33 seasons and two NCAA titles.
Blacklick Valley junior Maria McConnell, the granddaughter of IUP Women’s Coach Tom McConnell, was named to the Class A second team.
Other players of note on the Girls A and AA all-state teams are Hailee Smith of Juniata Valley and Makennah White of West Middlesex, both named AA first-team. White and her teammates were eliminated from the state tournament by Penns Manor in the last game before the season was halted. Bellwood Antis’ Sakeria Haralson and Bishop McCort’s Bella Hunt were named second team AA. Bishop Guilfoyle’s Teresa Haigh was named third team AA.
