Pirates right-hander Clay Holmes is scheduled to throw off the mound this week for the first time since suffering a fractured right fibula in spring training.
Left-hander Steven Brault should resume throwing in the next five days after being setback by a left shoulder strain.
Meanwhile, Jameson Taillon has started throwing again this week after completing a scheduled week off in his recovery from Tommy John surgery.
The Pirates’ director of sports medicine, Todd Tomczyk, gave an update to reporters on a conference call yesterday. He said the team is “very encouraged” by Gregory Polanco’s progress in his shoulder rehab.
