State police in Kittanning say a Shelocta man was caught in the act of burglarizing a home along Idaho Road in South Bend Township Tuesday evening. Troopers responding to a silent alarm found signs of forced entry and encountered 50-year-old Joseph Shonn Fryar actively stealing items from the home of a 65-year-old man who was not home at the time.
Fryar resisted arrest and kicked a trooper. He was taken to the Armstrong County Memorial Hospital for an involuntary mental health commitment.
Charges filed yesterday include seven felony offenses and seven misdemeanors. The felony charges are three counts of burglary, aggravated assault, criminal trespass, theft, and receiving stolen property. The misdemeanors are possession of marijuana, DUI controlled substance, simple assault, possession of a weapon, theft, resisting arrest, and criminal mischief. The case is currently listed as inactive while the mental health issues are addressed.
