The Pittsburgh Penguins blew the lead and lost to the New York Islanders, 5-4, last night in Elmont.
It was tied after one period with Sidney Crosby of the Pens and Anders Lee of the Islanders each scoring within two minutes of each other. The Pens jumped to a 3-1 lead in the second period with goals from Rickard Rakell and Jason Zucker early in the period. Brock Nelson would bring the game close for the Islanders to make it 3-2 before Rakell scored his second of the night to make it 4-2. Lee would get his second of the game about a minute after Rakell’s second goal. In the third, it was all New York as Nelson scored his second of the night on the power play to tie it up early in the third period, and Zach Parise scoring the game winner at the 17:17 mark of the third period. Casey DeSmith stopped 23 of 28 shots on goal in the loss.
