The medical battle continues for Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman after members of his office announced in a news release that he is seeking treatment for a mental illness.
In a statement released Thursday afternoon, officials said Fetterman checked into Walter Reed National Military Medical Center Wednesday evening to receive treatment for clinical depression. They add Fetterman has experienced depression off-and-on throughout his life, but it only became severe in recent weeks.
Fetterman’s treatment at Walter Reed is on a voluntary basis, and it was recommended Wednesday afternoon by Dr. Brian P. Monahan, the Attending Physician of the U.S. Congress, after he evaluated him on Monday.
Officials say Fetterman is “getting the care he needs and will soon be back to himself.” No details are available for when he will complete treatment and it comes less than a week after he was released from a hospital for lightheadedness.
After what he’s been through in the past year, there’s probably no one who wanted to talk about his own health less than John. I’m so proud of him for asking for help and getting the care he needs. pic.twitter.com/SfuwWTSUcG
