At last night’s meeting, the Burrell Township Supervisors formally approved an ordinance concerning animals in the borough.
The ordinance is not a ban against having animals, but it is designed to help deal with what Supervisor Dan Shacreaw called “nuisance complaints” concerning animals. He said that charges would not be filed for accidents like fence failures or other incidents, but rather the ongoing complaints concerning animals. It allows for the keeping of domesticated animals, and prohibits the keeping of wild animals.
The supervisors also swore in new supervisor Samuel Hilty. He was approved for the job at the last supervisors meeting in January. As he is a “meeting supervisor” and not a roadmaster, the supervisors also approved advertising for a road crew employee to handle those duties.
The supervisors also announced that they received a $150,000 grant from the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. That will go towards the Burrell Township Library project. So far, $579,000 has been raised for the project.
