All five starters were in double figures, led by Blake Hinson’s 21 points, as the Pitt Panthers knocked off Boston College, 77-58 last night at the Petersen Events Center.
Hinson was 6-for-11 on three pointers and Greg Elliot hit four of his eight attempts from beyond the arc as he scored 14 points. Nelly Cummings scored 11 and Feddy Federiko and Jamarius Burton each had 10.
Pitt is 19-7 and 12-3 in the ACC, good for a half-game lead over Virginia.
Coach Jeff Capel says the Panthers had to fend off a very physical BC team.
Capel says Pitt eventually was able to get a handle on the Eagles’ physicality and play their game.
Virginia plays at Louisville tonight with a chance to tie Pitt for the top spot in the ACC. The Panthers will play at Virginia Tech on Saturday.
