Two Allegheny County men landed in the Indiana County Jail Saturday afternoon after they tried to flee a traffic stop in Blairsville.
State police and Blairsville Borough police came upon a Mercedes Benz with an expired registration tag and attempted to pull the vehicle over on Route 217 near Market Street. The driver hit the gas and the chase was on along Route 217. Troopers set out two spike strips, one of which flattened a tire on the fleeing car and slowed it down. As the pursuit reached Route 286, troopers executed a PIT maneuver, forcing the car to stop near Aultman Runs Road.
The passenger of the car, 35-year-old David Wilson Jr. of Pittsburgh, fled on foot and two troopers chased him down in the woods. Along the way, he dropped a bag containing stamp bags of suspected heroin and two small bags of marijuana. Wilson and the driver, 32-year-old Mark Briggs Jr. of Braddock, face numerous charges including fleeing and eluding, resisting arrest, escape, recklessly endangering, and possession of a controlled substance. A back seat passenger was not charged.
