One local school district is going above and beyond to help students affected by a fire at a high school in Allegheny County.
After a fire destroyed the Elizabeth Forward High School auditorium and contents inside it early Sunday morning, River Valley School District Superintendent Phillip Martell reached out to his counterpart in Keith Konyk to see how they can help. Martell has ties to the district and offered to loan Elizabeth Forward the former Saltsburg marching band uniforms to help send their students on a band trip to Florida this week.
Martell said the uniforms are only a year old and in good condition, and considering it doesn’t have any school-specific branding, it would be a perfect way to help out the district.
Additionally, River Valley is holding a “Red and Black Day” in which faculty and staff members can wear red and black clothing in support of Elizabeth Forward. Donations will also be collected for the district.
The auditorium remains closed and an investigation into the fire is underway.
