The Kansas City Chiefs claimed their third Super Bowl title in franchise history after coming back to beat the Philadelphia Eagles, 38-35, Sunday night.
Kansas City trailed, 24-14, at halftime but brought the score within three after running back Isiash Pacheco scored a one-yard touchdown early in the third quarter. Two more touchdowns by Kadarius Toney and Skyy Moore gave the Chiefs their first lead early in the fourth quarter, and after Jalen Hurts tied it with 5:15 left, kicker Harrison Butker iced the game with a 24-yard field goal with eight seconds left.
Patrick Mahomes was named Super Bowl MVP for the second time in his career after throwing for 182 yards and three touchdowns, and rushing for 44 yards, including a key 26-yard run that help set up the game-winning kick. He said all credit goes to head coach Andy Reid.
Reid then credited his entire coaching staff for bringing another Super Bowl championship to Kansas City.
Former IUP assistant and current Eagles coach Nick Sirianni kept a “glass-half full” mentality, saying it was special to be in the Super Bowl.
Sirianni also shared his message to his team following the bitter loss.
Philadelphia’s Jalen Hurts completed 27 passes for 304 yards and a touchdown. He also led the team in rushing with 70 yards on 15 carries. DeVonta Smith hauled in seven catches for 100 yards.
The Eagles will also search for more than just redemption next season. According to reports, Indianapolis plans to hire Eagles’ offensive coordinator Shane Steichen as their head coach. The Colts began telling some head-coaching candidates Friday that they planned to go in another direction and then notified more candidates Sunday. Steichen would become the second Eagles offensive coordinator hired by the Colts as their head coach.
