Indiana Borough Council met last night and approved advertising the 2018 proposed budget.
That budget does contain a tax increase of .824 mils for borough residents. Most of that is to go to the general budget with small increases for the shade tree commission and the library. One thing that will be an addition to the budget will be a new position. Borough Manager Brad Gotshall said the job included writing for grants and keeping the grants the borough has going, along with writing media releases and setting up public meetings.
The budget will be up for approval at the regular meeting in December.
In other business, the board approved advertising a one-time short-term loan transfer of $500,000 from the sewer maintenance fund to the general fund to cover day-to-day operational expenses through the end of the year. Gotshall said they are on track with this year’s budget, but there have been about $240,000 in unanticipated expenditures the borough has had to make as of late, including payments to the Streetscape Interest that was supposed to be covered by Downtown Indiana, Inc. and several invoices connected to the Community Center Project that will eventually be reimbursed by the state.
