The Pirates’ pitchers and catchers report next Wednesday to Bradenton, with the full squad due for its first workout on February 20th.
Pirates players committed so far to play in the World Baseball Classic are reliever David Bednar (United States), starting pitcher Roansy Contreras (Dominican Republic) and prospects Tahnaj Thomas (Great Britain) and Jeffrey Passantino (Italy).
The WBC is scheduled for March 8th through the 21st in Taiwan, Japan, Florida, and Arizona. The last Classic was in 2017. It is played every four years, but it was postponed in 2021 and rescheduled for this year. The U.S. is the defending champion.
