At a meeting this morning, the Indiana County Commissioners approved opting in to five more national settlements related to the opioid epidemic.
This will be in addition to the $26 billion national settlements concerning Johnson and Johnson and the Big Three Distributors, according to Robert Marcus of Marcus and Mack, the lawfirm that has represented the county in these settlements. The new settlements will be against drug retailers CVS, Walgreens and Walmart, along with pharmaceutical companies TEVA and Allergan. Marcus believes that if the county opts in, they will do well.
The total amount assuming maximum national payment from all five entities comes to over $20 billion. It’s not known how much Indiana County would receive from each entity.
In other business, the commissioners proclaimed February as Black History Month. As part of that, the Indiana County Chapter of the NAACP announced a Living Legends celebration at the Indiana County Country Club on February 24th starting at 6:00 PM. The event is open to the public, and there is a $25 admission fee.
