Major League Baseball and the players’ association are considering having all 30 teams play games in the Phoenix area in empty ballparks to start the 2020 season. There are still many obstacles to overcome with the proposal, but the thought is with ten spring training ballparks plus the Diamondbacks’ Chase Field all within about fifty miles of one another, MLB would be able to host multiple games in a day and teams would not have to travel as much.
Hall of Famer and beloved Detroit Tiger Al Kaline has died at the age of 85. Kaline spent his entire 22-year career with the Tigers and is the club’s all-time leader in homers with 399. The 15-time All-Star and 10-time Gold Glove Award-winner ended his career with 3,007 hits and a .297 average and was elected to the Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility in 1980. At only twenty years old, he was the youngest batting champion in Major League history, leading the AL in 1955 with an average of .340. That was two points better than NL champ Richie Ashburn.
