This week will be a week to honor veterans and it kicked off in Blacklick with the sixth annual Veterans Marathon and Half-Marathon sponsored by Indiana First Bank.
Runners braved cold temperatures and dodged raindrops as they got ready for the sixth annual run on the Ghost Town Trail in Blacklick. Candice Lockard, one of the race organizers, said they were anticipating a good turnout once again this year. Over 300 runners were expected, and more were coming in this morning.
As a tribute to those who served, any veteran interested in running the marathon, half-marathon or marathon relay would be permitted to run for free. One of those veterans who took advantage of that offer was Ed Hoebechuk from Latrobe who was running with Team RWB. He talked about how this was a great way to pay tribute to veterans. He said it was something the common person can do to pay tribute to all veterans.

The real winners of the race are the veterans charities that the run supports. Counting the proceeds from this year’s run, about $100,000 has been raised to help Indiana County Veterans.
