The IUP men’s basketball team is 22-0 heading into tonight’s game at Mercyhurst and they’ve won 33 regular season games in a row dating back to last year. They are also the top-ranked Division Two team in the nation and are number one in the PSAC West at 16-0, but they will be facing the number two team in the West, and Mercyhurst is well-rested after not playing on Saturday.
Coach Joe Lombardi knows the Crimson Hawks will be tested.
Mercyhurst is 16-3 overall and 12-3 in the PSAC. They are 10-0 at home. IUP won, 80-67, the first time they played, on January 7th.
The men’s game is the second game of a doubleheader, with the 14-7 IUP women, 9-7 in the PSAC, taking on a 12-9 Mercyhurst team that is 8-7 in conference play, a half-game behind IUP. Mercyhurst beat IUP, 79-71, the first time they played, on January 7th at the KCAC.
The games tonight for the IUP teams are the first of a three-game set this week. They will be back home at the KCAC against UPJ on Wednesday and they visit Clarion on Saturday. Jack Benedict has the call tonight beginning with the pregame at 5:15 on 92.5 FM U92.
