By the middle of next week, commercial flights will stop at Arnold Palmer Regional Airport in Latrobe.
The airport’s only commercial carrier, Spirit Airlines, will continue to offer commercial flights at Arnold Palmer Regional Airport through Tuesday, but after that, air traffic will be halted to the airport until at least May 4th. Gabe Monzo, the airport’s executive director, called it a tough situation, but the airport will be able to recover from it. During the halt in service from Spirit, about a third of the airport’s 90 employees will be furloughed.
While the commercial flights will stop for now, the airport will remain open for private flights and charter service, and maintenance employees will continue to work on site, including mowing the grass and doing some painting at the airport. Work on the airport’s $13.2 million runway widening project is expected to start next week.
