The IUP basketball teams enter the home stretch of the PSAC season tonight with a rematch against Seton Hill. The women beat the Griffins, 77-60, at the KCAC on January 4th, and the men won their game, 76-55.
Men’s coach Joe Lombardi has guided the Crimson Hawks to a 20-0 start and the number one ranking in the nation. They’re 14-0 in the PSAC and coming off a 14-point win over East Stroudsburg, 67-53, last Saturday. Seton Hill is 12-8 and 7-7. They lost by 11 to Mercyhurst on Saturday. But they are 8-2 on their home floor, and first-year coach Ben Wilkins has taken a squad mostly made up of players from last year’s 3-24 team and turned them into winners.
Lombardi is 20-1 lifetime against Seton Hill. He says Wilkins has made the Griffins a dangerous team.
Coach Craig Carey’s IUP women are 14-5, and 9-5 in the PSAC. They’re coming off an 18-point win over East Stroudsburg on Saturday, a game in which they finally got back their complete lineup back from injuries. Seton Hill is 13-9 and 6-7 in the conference. They lost their last time out, by 10 to Mercyhurst.
Carey says he’s learned in his first season in the PSAC that it’s a tough conference.
The women’s game tips off at 5:30. Jack Benedict has the call beginning with the pregame at 5:15 on 92.5 FM U92. Listen online at U92radio.com.
