The Penguins stumble into the NHL All-Star break with nine days to rest and press the reset button on a disappointing season.
After losing Saturday to lowly San Jose, the Pens are in fifth place in the Metro Division, are barely clutching the last Eastern Conference playoff spot, and have lost three of their past four games.
With the team not scheduled to play again until February 7th at home against defending Stanley Cup champion Colorado, the Pens yesterday assigned veteran goaltender Dustin Tokarski and rookie forward Jonathan Gruden to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Tokarski was on an emergency recall due to the undisclosed injury of starting goalie Tristan Jarry, who the Penguins hope will be able to return for the Colorado game.
Sidney Crosby is the Penguins’ lone representative to the All-Star game in Sunrise, Florida, the home of the Florida Panthers.
