The State Senate will convene today at 11 AM for consideration of several bills regarding the Covid-19 crisis, and for the first time, the senators will be meeting online instead of traveling to Harrisburg.
Among the measures the Senate will consider are legislation to change the date of the primary election, expand unemployment compensation, amending the Pennsylvania School Code to address misses instructional time, and support healthcare facilities and employees on the front lines of the battle against the virus.
The House was in session yesterday, also electronically. Representatives used remote voting to advance a bill to move the primary election from April 28th to June 2nd, and to allow local governments to conduct their business remotely during a declared emergency. They will take up the state School Code today.
Also this morning at 11, state Education Secretary Pedro Rivera and other senior leaders at the Department of Education will conduct a media conference call to discuss guidance for schools for educating homebound students.
