Trailing for most of the game and by eight points with less than 2:30 left to play, Pitt stormed back to upset Miami, 71-68 yesterday at the Petersen Events Center.
Two defensive steals by Jamarius Burton and one by Greg Elliott, all with less than a minute to play, spelled doom for Miami. Blake Hinson grabbed the offensive rebound after Burton’;s first steal and subsequent missed layup. Hinson put it in to give Pitt the lead and Elliott later hit both ends of a one-on-one from the foul line to help seal the win.
With the win, Pitt (15-7, 7-3 in the ACC) moved into sole possession of third place in the conference.
