Sentencing is scheduled today for defendants in numerous criminal cases, including an Indiana woman who pleaded guilty in two cases. One set of charges against 26-year-old Francise Reed was for using drugs in a car while sitting beside her 6-month-old son. The other case was for selling three cars and some wood that she did not own. In the drug case, she pleaded guilty to endangering the welfare of children after a police officer observed her being injected with heroin by 25-year-old Nicholas Murphy, with their baby sitting between them in the back seat of their car in a store parking lot. In the other case, she pleaded guilty to a single count of theft. Murphy’s criminal case is still in the court system, currently listed as inactive.
Another defendant scheduled for sentencing today is 31-year-old William Cassatt Jr. of Homer City, a former United High School bus driver who hired a 16-year-old girl who’d been a passenger on his bus to baby-sit his children after the school year ended in the summer of 2016. Police said he had improper physical contact with the girl at several locations. They were alerted by the victim’s father after he found inappropriate messages on her cell phone. Cassatt pleaded guilty to three misdemeanor counts of corruption of minors, with 31 other counts not prosecuted.
