At last night’s Homer-Center School Board meeting, the board approved some motions connected with the mandated shutdown of schools by Governor Tom Wolf.
The board approved the hard shutdown of the school through March 27th, and approved paying hourly employees during the approved shutdown. District teachers are supplying some of their students with enrichment material, but High School Principal Jody Rainey said that if they want to teach online, that could be a problem as not everyone has reliable internet access.
As far as the district lunch program goes, there is a bit of confusion with the Governor’s recent order for non-life-sustaining businesses to shut down. The plan is for the district to continue to provide meals to students, but after today, they will seek guidance from the Governor’s office.
The board will also meet in executive session over video chat at least once a week to make sure that everyone is updated on the status of schools in the state.
Speaking of the video chat, Board President Michael Bertig was happy with how the Zoom video chat worked.
Blairsville-Saltsburg School Board plans on using the same service for their next board meeting, and information on how the public can view that meeting can be found on the Blairsville-Saltsburg website www.b-ssd.org.
