A Somerset man was in Indiana County Court today for a probation revocation hearing dealing with charges that go back to 2012.
51-year-old Woodrow Hicks, Jr. went before Indiana County President Judge William Martin and had his probation revoked for an incident in November of 2012 when he arranged to meet a 15-year-old girl for sex in the parking lot at Southtowne Plaza in White Township. When he arrived for the rendezvous, he was met by state police. He tried to flee but was eventually captured.
Hicks had tried to appeal his case several times, but in September of last year, State Superior Court denied his appeal of the denial of post-sentence motions for relief. The court also vacated an order that changed his sex offender requirements from lifetime to ten years. The Superior Court changed it back to a lifetime registration requirement.
Indiana County District Attorney Bob Manzi said the reason Hicks was brought back before the judge was because of some incidents at the Tomorrow’s Hope center. He was accused of refusing a breathalyzer test at the Tomorrow’s hope program and threatening to hurt one of the residents there by throwing them off the balcony. He was also found in possession of pills not prescribed to him, and was caught on three different occasions with internet-capable devices within a short time span. He also refused to comply with sex-offender treatment counseling.
Hicks had his probation revoked and was ordered to serve two-and-a-half to five years each on charges of unlawful contact with a minor and criminal use of a communications facility, and one to two years on a charge of fleeing or eluding police. Judge Martin ordered the sentences to run concurrently.
