State police in Indiana County have announced that there is no change to their field operations for the upcoming weekend, which is traditionally when IUPatty’s is held.
Earlier this week, Indiana Borough Police Chief Justin Schawl made an impassioned plea to college students and others to not take part in celebratory activities in light of the Covid-19 pandemic. State police are saying that their IUPatty’s detail will remain in effect for the weekend.
Troopers are continuing to monitor social media and social activity in the area. The extra detail starts tonight and will run through Sunday, March 22nd. In a statement, state police say the public can be confident that they have plans and resources in place to respond to emergencies in the area and support their law enforcement partners. They are also keeping in mind the PA Department of Health and CDC guidelines and to follow best sanitation practices when out in public, including frequent hand washing or use of hand sanitizer, keeping work spaces clean and sanitized, practicing social distancing, avoiding large groups when they are off-duty, limiting personal travel and staying home when they feel sick.
