The Penguins have two more games left before the All-Star break, and neither of those two games will include goaltender Tristan Jarry. The two-time All-Star suffered an unspecified upper body injury Tuesday before the Pens’ win over Florida and coach Mike Sullivan said yesterday that Jarry will sit out tonight’s game against Washington and Saturday’s game against San Jose.
The Pens recalled Dustin Tokarski to back up Casey DeSmith the next two games. Defenseman Ty Smith was sent back to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton
Winger Kasperi Kapanen rejoined his Penguins teammates at practice yesterday, wearing a non-contact jersey. He skated on a fifth line with injured forward Josh Archibald and reserve Jonathan Gruden. Kapanen also skated prior to the practice with injured defenseman Jan Rutta.
Coming off a 7-6 win over Florida, coach Sullivan talked about the Penguins when they are their best versus when they’re scuffling, and he said much of the difference is decision-making on offense.
Sullivan said the Penguins’ power play, which was poor the first two times against Florida but then scored on three straight chances after that, is a lot like other power plays in the NHL.
The Penguins will only play the Capitals three times this season, but captain Sidney Crosby says the two teams are very familiar with each other, and he expects another physical game.
Faceoff tonight is shortly after 7 o’clock. You’ll hear it on 92.5 FM U92 with the pregame beginning at 6.
In other news, the NHL has changed the Penguins’ start time for their April 8th game at Detroit from 7 PM to 1 PM.
