The Pitt Panthers will celebrate the 35th anniversary of one of college basketball’s most famous moments tonight with “Send It In Jerome Night” at the Petersen Events Center. Pitt will take on Wake Forest in a key ACC game, but the night will also include a tribute to Jerome Lane, the two-time Panthers’ All-American who shattered the backboard with a thunderous dunk in a Pitt win over Providence on January 25th, 1988.
Coach Jeff Capel says celebrating great players and moments in Pitt basketball history are important for the program.
The 13-6 Panthers are coming off an upset loss to Florida State and the Demon Deacons, at 14-6, are on the early NCAA Tournament bubble just as Pitt is. Both teams are 6-3 in the ACC.
Tipoff tonight is scheduled for seven o’clock. The pregame airs at 6:30 on WCCS.
