The extradition process for a man charged with killing a Pitt student and raping a former IUP student continues in South Carolina.
Late Tuesday, Matthew Darby entered a guilty plea in a court in Myrtle Beach to charges of loitering and giving false information to authorities. Allegheny County Sheriff’s are awaiting a court order to send deputies to Myrtle Beach to bring Darby back to Pennsylvania to face charges of murder in connection with the death of Alin Sheykhet, his former girlfriend, who was killed in the early morning hours of October 8th at an off-campus apartment in Oakland. A few days earlier, Darby was in Indiana County Court on charges of rape, sexual assault, aggravated indecent assault and indecent assault for an incident last February against another girl, who has only been identified as an ex-girlfriend and a former IUP student.
Darby also faces rape charges for a case involving a teenage girl from Elizabeth on October 3rd. This victim came forward after the news of Sheykhet’s death was announced. It’s anticipated that Darby will be sentenced to time served in South Carolina, which would clear the way for him to return to Pennsylvania.
