In its latest report, the Pennsylvania Department of Health reports that flu cases are increasing across the state but at a slower rate.
While seasonal flu activity remains high for Pennsylvania and the U.S., flu activity decreased slightly over the past week. A total of 172,559 laboratory-confirmed cases of flu were reported in Pennsylvania, marking an increase of 4,160 cases. Statistics show that Type A flu is still the most common type across the state as 168,567 cases were reported. Type B has 3,799 confirmed cases while Type U, or Unknown, increased slightly to 193 cases.
Flu activity has increased in Indiana County also increased at a slow rate. A total of 982 cases have been reported in the county, with 903 cases listed as Type A and 79 as Type B.
These numbers represent the number of laboratory-confirmed flu cases that come from testing. There may be more but are not included in the data as people either treat themselves or a doctor diagnoses the symptoms and doesn’t administer a full flu test.
