On Wednesday night, the Burrell Township Supervisors appointed a new supervisor to take over for one who resigned his position last month.
Supervisor Larry Henry stepped down in December, and current supervisors Dan Shacreaw and John Shields interviewed three candidates between last month and last night. Both Shields and Shacreaw approved hiring Samuel Hilty to become a “meeting supervisor”, while they will continue to look for a person to take over roadmaster duties that Henry also performed.
In other business, the Supervisors approved a new animal ordinance. Shacreaw explained why this ordinance came into being.
The ordinance would make it illegal for anyone to keep wild animals in the township, but will allow domestic animals like chickens and household pets like dogs and cats to be kept asl long as the animals are not permitted to run free on adjoining properties, streets, sidewalks or other public and private property in the township.
