Much to the chagrin of Steelers fans, sources say the team plans on bringing back offensive coordinator Matt Canada for a third season.
After a tumultuous season where the Steelers were faced with a quarterback crisis, Canada led the team to the 29 touchdowns in 17 games, tied for the second-worst mark in the NFL.
Sports Illustrated reports that the only two teams finishing with fewer touchdowns were the Broncos and Texans.
While the motive to retain Canada is unclear, the connection with quarterback Kenny Pickett might have something to do with it, as Canada was Pickett’s offensive coordinator at Pitt.
Additionally, Pickett’s significant improvement towards the end of the season could be a factor as he threw only one interception in the team’s final eight regular season games.
The signing is not official yet.
