Good news for Penelec customers, who will see lower electricity rates for the next three months.
The utility’s latest quarterly “price to compare” shows a reduction from 6.45 cents per kilowatt hour to 5.4 cents, which will result in the average residential customer’s monthly bill falling from $114.40 to $106.61, based on 750 kilowatt hours.
The rate went up in the last quarter, from 5.2 cents to 6.45 cents.
Electricity rates are broken into two parts: the cost of generating the power and the cost of transmitting it. The new rates reflect a reduction in generation costs. They took effect on March 1st.
