The Penguins got a dramatic win Monday night, and even more good news as some of their injured stars work their way back to the ice. Paul Steigerwald recaps a gritty win over Anaheim.
Coach Mike Sullivan said it was his veterans that led the way to the win.
Sullivan announced that defenseman Kris Letang will rejoin the Penguins this week after two weeks away from the team rehabbing an injury and tending to his family after the death of his father. Media sources reported later that Letang will be back today but his playing status will await the evaluation of his recovery from the undisclosed injury.
Injured goaltender Tristan Jarry took shots from some teammates during morning skate and injured defenseman Jeff Petry and forward Ryan Poehling also skated with the other Pens. But after taking part in the morning skate, veteran defenseman Jan Rutta was scratched from the lineup last night with a new injury. Sullivan labeled Rutta “day to day”.
Sullivan says the Penguins continue to play with guys out of position while waiting for their injured players to return.
The Penguins play at Ottawa tomorrow night and return to PPG Paints Arena Friday to play the Senators at home.
