GIRLS BASKETBALL
The Indiana girls took care of Plum last night, 67-37 as Katie Kovalchick poured in a career-high 28 points and Eve Fiala and Bella Antonacci each scored 12. The win gives Indiana a 10-4 overall record, and 6-0 in 5A Section 1.
Coach Otto Peterson says it’s good to win a tough Section game at home.
Peterson says winning Section games is important for postseason positioning.
Indiana will open the second half of Section play on Thursday at home against Penn Hills. Both teams are “the Indians”. Indiana won, 56-40 the last time they played, on December 16th.
United continued playing well in a 68-60 win over Bishop McCort last night. Mollee Fry scored 22 points, including five three-pointers. Delaney Perrone had 14 points and Aleah Bevard 13. The Lions have a big Heritage Conference game at Portage tonight.
The Homer-Center teams both played Redbank Valley at the Homerdome last night, and both of the Wildcats teams came up short. The girls lost, 47-39, while the boys fell, 38-37, after entering the fourth quarter tied at 31.
The Wildcats girls got 18 points from Macy Sardine, including four three-pointers in the second half, and 14 from Molly Kosmack, but they had only four girls in the scoring column. Girls coach Nick Moore says it’s been a tough run lately, but the team is going to have to pull it together for a Heritage Conference game tonight against Purchase Line.
In the boys game, Caleb Palmer scored 10 points to lead Homer-Center.
FOOTBALL
Purchase Line has re-hired football coach Matt Falisec as its varsity head football coach. Falisec has 31 wins in six seasons as Red Dragons coach.

River Valley’s girls will do battle with Penns Manor in a tough Heritage Conference game tonight on Cat Country, 106.3 FM. Airtime, again is at about 7.
