As of yesterday, 21-year-old Matthew Darby remained in custody in South Carolina, with his attorney saying he will be extradited back to Pennsylvania before the end of the month. Meanwhile, investigators continue to build the murder case against him in Pittsburgh, and here in Indiana County, a date has been set for jury selection in his rape case.
Darby is charged with the beating and stabbing death of his former girlfriend, Alin Sheykhet on October 8th at her apartment near the University of Pittsburgh. He had appeared in Indiana County Court for a hearing on his rape case two days prior to Sheykhet’s murder, but remained free on $10,000 bond.
Darby is charged with rape, sexual assault, aggravated indecent assault, and indecent assault for the alleged rape of a woman in Indiana last February. She was an IUP student who was also an ex-girlfriend of Darby.
Judge William Martin on Monday moved forward with the revocation on Darby’s bond, ordering defense attorney David Shrager to show cause why it should not be revoked. Jury selection has been set for November 20th.
