At last night’s Indiana Borough Council work session, council discussed the 2018 budget.
In the proposed budget from Borough Manager Bradley Gotshall, less than a one-mil tax increase is recommended. A quarter of the tax increase will go towards flood mitigation, but how that money will be used remains a question. The original reason that money would be set aside would be to pay for matching grants and property reclamation, borough councilman Gerald Smith says that council needs to use the money for a project in the immediate future. He added that there are a lot of projects in the pipeline and the money would be best used to get a project going next year.
Also discussed was a $95,000 request from Citizens’ ambulance. While the council is in agreement that Citizens’ provides a valuable service, they want to have a better grip on where the money goes. Council member William Budris suggested that a consortium of municipalities made up of those served by Citizens’ be formed. The proposed consortium would also have a seat on the Citizens’ board to further track the ambulance group’s financial health.
The budget will be up for preliminary approval at their meeting in November.
