The Blairsville Borough Council heard from residents perturbed about the conditions of certain neighboring homes, approved a final plan for new senior housing, finalized a parking ban on a troublesome street, and set a date for trick-or-treating at Tuesday’s meeting.
Some Blairsville residents are fed up with trash and furniture in certain yards and on some front porches, including mattresses, lounges, liquor bottles and other raw trash. Particular homes on Morewood Avenue, Wynn Street, and S Stewart Street were cited. A Morewood Avenue resident even claimed to have seen someone defecating in the yard of the residence in question. The council agreed to investigate these concerns and work toward resolving them as soon as possible.
Councilman Albert Dettorre added that being a landlord is about more than collecting rent:
“There’s more to it than just collecting a paycheck. You have a responsibility to the community. You have a responsibility to the neighborhood.”
In other news, the council approved a final site plan for the Shoemaker Senior Housing project. The duplex will be addressed 135 and 137 Chestnut Street once construction is completed during the winter.
Additionally, the council approved an ordinance prohibiting parking on both sides of S Walnut Street between Brown and Johnson Streets, due to numerous accidents occurring here over the last years.
Borough Manager Tim Evans said also that the South Marrow Paving Project was successfully completed.
And finally, trick-or-treating will take place on Saturday, October 28th from 2 to 4 PM, while the Halloween parade is slated for 7 PM on October 30th.
