It’s been roughly four and a half months since the state budget was to have been completed and signed off, but a funding gap still needs to be filled, and progress remains slow at the State House level.
Both the State House and Senate reconvened on Monday, and the topic was expected to be continued budget funding negotiations. While the budget was approved in June, a funding plan for the budget remains up in the air. House Majority Leader Dave Reed said that there didn’t seem to be much forward motion on a budget plan.
Governor Tom Wolf has taken it upon himself to balance the state budget through borrowing against State Liquor Control Board revenues and the Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg. Senate Appropriations Chair Pat Browne says Republican Attorneys believe there may be legal issues with the Governor’s plan.
While Wolf administration officials say the plan was thoroughly examined and everything is fair and above board, the Governor will consider an alternate plan if the Legislature brings one forward.
