State officials are taking action to help ease the pain at the pump for Pennsylvania residents.
Senator Joe Pittman said in a news release that Senate Bill 35 was approved this week, which would prevent the second-highest gas tax in the nation. This comes on the heels of the average wholesale price of gas that exceeded $2.99 per gallon last year, which triggered the automatic increase in Pennsylvania’s gas tax to go into effect January 1.
The Bill would eliminate the automatic gas tax for 2023 moving forward. It would permanently set the average wholesale price at $2.99, and it would require the Department of Revenue to reassess this year’s gas tax structure.
The bill now heads to the House for consideration.
