IUP will host a special program at the Ed Fry arena at the KCAC on Thursday involving a man who has been praised a hero.
The program featuring Kyle Richard was originally supposed to take place in the Toretti Auditorium, but because of interest, it will be moved to the main arena to accommodate more attendees. Richard was attending college at the State University of New York in 2017 when he interrupted a sexual assault in progress. He pursued the attacker, who drew a gun and shot him once in each leg. Richard received several awards for his bravery, including the Orange Bowl Courage Award, a 2018 Biden Courage award, and the 2019 Giant Steps Award.

While he is reluctant to accept the title of “hero”, he says he now has a calling to address the fact that bystanders do not take action, and he will speak on the topics of leadership and healthy masculinity to address sexual, domestic and gun violence.
The presentation is made possible through funding from the IUP It’s On Us Grant, and will be co-sponsored by the Haven Project, Green Dot and the Title IX office. The program, which starts at 7 PM, is free and open to the public.
